Land / Sea is a self-driven project exploring the link between a subject matter and its physical form.
I decided to investigate terrain and maps, specifically hilly landscapes and compare their visual similarities to that of waves.
A concertina book was produced from photographs to mimic the shape and form of waves and hills: with the landscape pictures on top and the sea images underneath. Each time the book is opened its shape changes like the waves it depicts.
As further development I explored the symbols and graphic associations attached to maps, weather reports and maritime information to create my own visual interpretations.
